Listening to my April 2011 playlist.

Punchline, Gabriel The Marine, NGHBRS, Life Between Sleep. I forgot how perfect this mix is. I’m having a hardcore sing along all by myself…
Today is a good day.

If you don’t know NGHBRS yet, you’re really missing out.

We all know I write / talk / dream / think about various musicians. There are a lot of artists I like, but then there are a select few that I’m extra passionate about. Being one of my followers, or checking my site (TheMusicObsession.com) every once in a while would easily show you which ones I really have faith in. Just to name a few: Patent Pending, This Condition, Giants At Large, and NGHBRS.
I interviewed NGHBRS via email back in February, but I finally got to see them live in April at Rogue Studios. Although I am young, I sometimes feel jaded in the sense that it takes a lot for a band to truly impress me. That show NGHBRS put on at Rogue was one of the best I have ever attended, hands down. Not only that, but the guys in the band are some of the friendliest you’ll ever meet. I was able to hang out with them again last night (7/8/11) at their show with North Korea. Again, their performance was spectacular from what I saw. The best part about the show, however, was the interaction with the band after their set. They were honestly shocked and upset to hear that they started playing before everyone was allowed entrance into the venue. I got in with just enough time to see their last 2 & a half songs, but the energy and surprise additions that they incorporate into their performances made waiting in the rain worthwhile. They’re so appreciative of every fan, of every person that gives their music a chance or goes out to a show. It’s great to see things like that, and that’s why NGHBRS is part of the handful of artists I talk about the most. They deserve recognition for their music, of course, but also for their ability to stay grounded and thankful even with such a rapidly growing fan base. These guys are quality, and they deserve all the attention they can get. Go check them out, buy a song or two on iTunes, support them in some way, and know that it’s always appreciated.

My only picture from last night’s show: Gabriel The Marine @ Rogue Studios (*4/5 members pictured)

Not the greatest picture, but it was taken at one of the greatest shows I’ve been to in a long time.
» I finally understand why everyone tells me to listen to Gabriel The Marine (pictured), they’re incredible. When watching them live, it felt like I was listening to a recording because it was flawless. The only difference was the passion in the performance that you could only see in person. The use of violin was amazing and definitely sets this band apart from the rest.
» Immediately following this band, NGHBRS took the “stage” and absolutely blew me away. I’ve loved this band since they first reached out to me around November. I interviewed them in January, but I wasn’t able to see or meet them until this show. I expected a killer set, but I got so much more than that. The band was simply phenomenal. Watching them perform, you could just see how much they love what they do. The energy, the passion, the talent, the stage presence - The combination gave me chills. I was able to meet the drummer that night too, and he seemed just as excited to meet me as I was to meet him. He’s a great guy with a solid sense of humor, and just like his band mates, he really put it all out there in the performance. At the end of it, I walked away with a drum stick, a NGHBRS bracelet, and a huge smile on my face. Out of bands I’ve seen previously, NGHBRS is one of the best bands to see live.
» Added bonus: I made some new friends at this show, including one who knew who I was before I even had to tell him my name. It’s little things like that that seriously make me smile. So that, combined with the epic performances made for one hell of a night.
